Just as the moon passes by the sun during lunar eclipses, Venus crosses over the Earth's line of sight about twice a century, generally in two passes eight years apart. The last time it happened was 2004. The next transit of Venus will be in 2117.

I am getting a bit more optimistic that many of us will see the transitor be able to view it with a modest drive. Each forecast run is clearing out moreparticularly on the coast. Here are the cloud fields from the UW WRF model
