The New York Yankees have placed closer David Robertson on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, according to CBS New York.

The 27-year-old had not pitched since May 11 due to the discomfort, and according to ESPN, he had not attempted to throw during his time off either. He underwent an MRI today which revealed the strain.

Robertson was promoted to the closer role earlier this month after legendary closer Mariano Rivera went down with a knee injury while shagging fly balls in batting practice.

Robertson has had one save and one blown save since taking over. Overall he has posted a 2.51 ERA in 15 games for the Yankees this year. Last season, he posted a microscopic 1.08 ERA for the Yankees in 66.2 innings. That season he also struck out 100 batters, giving him one of the best strikeout rates in baseball.
