The Rev. Marvin Winans, 54, was carjacked at a Citgo gas station and suffered multiple bruises after being assaulted. The thieves, a group of young men, took off with his burgundy 2012 Infiniti SUV, about $200 from his Louis Vuitton wallet, and his $15,000 Rolex gold-and-diamond-encrusted watch.
He had scrapes, bumps and ripped pants after the incident in northwest Detroit. He refused EMS transport to a hospital but a friend drove him to get medical attention, police said.
Winans was pumping gas when a young man approached and "engaged him in conversation about the music he had on the radio," Detroit police Inspector Nick Kyriacou said.
When the man suddenly told Winans that gas was spilling from his tank, the minister turned toward his SUV and the young man sucker-punched him from behind and pushed him down, after which "three or four men punched and kicked him on the pavement," Kyriacou said.
Police are seeking 10 young men, between 18 and 20.
