Don’t have a ring bearer or a flower girl who is under three years old unless they are really mature for their age. My wife’s two-year-old niece didn’t want to walk down the aisle, cried, and threw the flowers: she was just too young. We really didn’t have anyone else to ask, but I think we’d have been better off without a flower girl.

The guests my parents invited were people I’d known all my life, and I was glad they were there. I told my parents to invite some of their friends, but I made it clear that it couldn’t be more than 20, and it needed to be people I knew. And, of course, I had the final say.

We’re Jewish and found other ways to honor people: chuppah holders, ketubah signers, and readers. All these components are part of a Jewish ceremony, and they allowed us to include more people.

There was a fistfight at our reception because we were unaware that there were hard feelings between two people there. They nearly knocked the wedding cake over! It was crazy. You really have to be aware of the different relationships between people who will be at your wedding.
